Resident Evil 1 appreciation post because I first played the game this month last year.
I LOVE the Resident Evil 1 remake it is one of my favorite games. I completed all the achievements which I thought were pretty hard in like two weeks because I was just having so much fun. The hardest was probably the no-save run, on one of my attempts I was 98% done the game but I took my eyes off the screen and I was carrying a fuel cannister that explodes if you run for too long so I died and had to restart.
I really enjoyed the fun puzzles, surviving and managing resources, my first time exploring the mansion, and on subsequent playthroughs I liked how nice it felt to improve on my previous runs. I managed to get a 2:10:38 run on hard difficulty my first attempt at a sub 3 hour run. The bosses made the knife only run really hard, but I didn’t find the “real survival” or “invisible enemies” runs too hard by themselves.
After you complete the invisible enemies playthrough you get message from the devs of the game which I thought was a wholesome touch. It was nice to see that they took the time to appreciate players who truly enjoyed their game.
I also think it is really cool that the pre-rendered backgrounds allow a 2002 game to look so high quality since the environments are just images and all the processing power is spent on the 3D character models. The tank controls took some getting used to, but they sort of add to the overall feel of the game which I enjoy.
I’m thankful to my friend Victor from high school for recommending I play the game way back then.
