Nausicaä

I think the Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind books are really well written and illustrated. My father has the Hardcover Box Set and I’ve enjoyed reading them since I was a kid. They are an absolute treasure. The complex story and detailed art are amazing. Since the hardcover pages are so large it is really a wonderful reading experience. If you’ve only seen the movie you are missing out on the full masterpiece that Hayao Miyazaki created, since he adapted the film when he was only halfway through the manga. I enjoy the film but to be honest I was disappointed when I watched it as a kid because I expected it to be like the books and they didn’t include a lot of the story. The books go into much more of the epic story and I also think Miyazaki didn’t have the necessary resources to produce a Nausicaa film with production quality on the level of his later Studio Ghibli works.
